Ogoni cleanup: Reps demand more funds for HYPREP

The House of Representatives Committee on Host Communities has called for increased funding and enhanced budgetary allocations for the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) to accelerate the execution of key remediation initiatives in Ogoniland.

Lawmakers emphasized that additional financial support is critical to completing outstanding environmental cleanup contracts, expanding portable water schemes, and sustaining livelihood restoration programs across oil-impacted host communities in Rivers State.

The call comes alongside heightened legislative oversight from the National Assembly aimed at tracking project timelines, verifying contractor performance, and ensuring that funds allocated for Ogoniland’s ecological restoration deliver tangible environmental and socio-economic benefits to the local population.
