Wike, Rivers Lawmakers Meet Fubara Ahead of 2027 General Elections

PORT HARCOURT — Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, alongside members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and all 23 local government chairmen, met with Governor Siminalayi Fubara at his private residence in Port Harcourt.

The high-level meeting on Sunday evening was part of ongoing political reconciliation efforts following a protracted rift between Wike and his successor, aiming to harmonise structures and explore political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The delegation led by Wike included the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, and key stakeholders from the Rainbow Coalition, as well as the APC governorship candidate in Rivers State, Kingsley Chinda.

Speaking on the outcome of the meeting, the Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, stated that discussions focused on political alignment to support the re-election bid of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and consolidated candidates under the coalition banner in 2027.

The meeting follows earlier reconciliation talks between the rival camps to resolve the executive-legislative crisis that previously stalled governance in Rivers State, though political observers note that negotiations regarding how Governor Fubara’s loyalists will fit into the emerging 2027 political framework remain ongoing.
