LAGOS — The Lagos State Government has announced a planned traffic diversion following the upcoming commencement of a 35-day rehabilitation exercise along the critical Ozumba Mbadiwe Road and Lekki-Epe Expressway corridor.
In an official public notice issued by the Ministry of Transportation, state authorities disclosed that major engineering works are scheduled to begin on Monday, October 19, 2026, aimed at fixing damaged road sections and restoring smooth surface conditions along the heavily trafficked commercial axis.
To facilitate continuous vehicular movement while construction crews carry out road resurfacing, asphalt works, and drainage clearing, transportation officials outlined a phased traffic management plan:
-
Sectional Lane Closures: Construction will be executed in controlled phases, allowing one lane to remain open to commuters while affected sections undergo active repairs.
-
Alternative Route Advisory: Motorists traveling towards Victoria Island, Lekki, and Ikoyi are advised to utilize alternative bypasses—including the Admiralty Way corridor, Falomo Bridge, and inner Victoria Island network roads—to bypass potential bottlenecks.
-
LASTMA Deployment: Dedicated teams of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will be stationed across key access points to enforce traffic flow, guide motorists, and manage directional signs.
The Ministry of Transportation urged motorists and business owners along the Ozumba Mbadiwe corridor to exercise patience, plan daily commutes ahead, and strictly adhere to traffic directives throughout the 35-day rehabilitation period.
