LAGOS — The Lagos State Government has granted official approval to 101 newly established private primary and secondary schools across the state, while issuing a stern warning to school administrators against covering up cases of child abuse and molestation.
The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, announced the approvals and directives during an inspection and briefing session held in Alausa, Ikeja.
Alli-Balogun stated that the newly approved institutions met all statutory requirements, academic standards, and safety regulations set by the Ministry of Education. He congratulated the proprietors but emphasized that maintaining accreditation requires strict adherence to operating standards and child protection protocols.
Addressing the issue of student safety, the commissioner warned that any school management found guilty of concealing, downplaying, or failing to report incidents of sexual harassment, bullying, or child abuse will face immediate revocation of their operating license and legal prosecution. He urged school owners to establish transparent reporting mechanisms and prioritize the physical and emotional well-being of all students.
