Delta State Earmarks $100m and Clears 12,000 Hectares of Farmland for Agricultural Development

The Delta State Government has set aside $100 million (approximately N133.8 billion) as a viability gap fund aimed at de-risking new private-sector investments, while clearing 12,000 hectares of farmland dedicated to commercial agriculture.

“Unlocking Private Sector Capital in Agribusiness”

Highlighting the state’s strategy to transition from oil dependency to sustainable agro-industrial growth, Governor Oborevwori stated:

Investment opportunities abound in the value chain production of cassava, oil palm, rice, potato, and other cash crops. It is my pleasure to announce that in preparation for this summit, over 12,000 hectares of farmland have been marked for agricultural development for prospective investors.”Governor Sheriff Oborevwori

State officials confirmed that the de-risking framework will work in tandem with regional development initiatives—such as the recently launched Niger Delta Agricultural Investment Fund—to accelerate food security, job creation, and industrial expansion.
