ABUJA — Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Professor Kingsley Moghalu, has publicly rejected his inclusion in the newly unveiled 2027 presidential campaign policy team of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, revealing that he was neither consulted nor gave his consent for the appointment.
Moghalu disowned the appointment in an official statement released via his verified X handle on Thursday, September 24, 2026, hours after the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential campaign council published its national operational structure listing him alongside Mohammed Hayatudeen and Professor Mohammed Sagagi on its Policy Team.
Clarifying his position, the former 2019 presidential candidate emphasized that he retired from partisan politics in 2022 and has maintained a strictly non-partisan stance on national affairs ever since.
“For the record, I was not consulted and did not give my consent to my name being published as a member of the ADC candidate’s policy team,” Moghalu stated. “I am NOT, in fact, a member of Atiku’s policy team, even unofficially or in any advisory capacity. I have quit partisan politics in Nigeria since 2022 and am not a member or sympathizer of any political party in Nigeria.”
Moghalu noted that his national contributions are currently channeled through non-partisan governance and advisory platforms, including his role as President of the Institute for Governance and Economic Transformation (IGET Africa) and Chief Executive Officer of Sogato Strategies, a geopolitical risk firm. He added that contributing to national progress does not require partisan alignment, stressing that he has chosen “the path of statesmanship, not partisanship.”
The immediate disclaimer introduces a swift operational hitch to the ADC Presidential Campaign Council, unveiled earlier in the day under the leadership of Kashim Ibrahim-Imam as Council Chairman, detained former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai as Deputy Chairman, and Senator Austin Akobundu as Campaign Manager. The Atiku campaign organization has yet to issue a formal response regarding the unauthorized publication of Moghalu’s name.
