NAFDAC Uncovers Residential Building Stockpiling Over 100 Sacks of Empty Bottles for Fake Alcohol in Lagos

LAGOS — Operatives of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) have uncovered a secluded residential facility in Lagos State allegedly being used to stockpile over 100 sacks of empty bottles for suspected counterfeit alcohol production.

The operation was executed at 322B Meiran Road, Agbado, following credible intelligence gathered by the agency’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate regarding illicit manufacturing operations hidden within quiet residential neighborhoods.

Assistant Director at NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate, Kunle Ojo, confirmed the raid during an enforcement sweep at the site.

Enforcement officers discovered hundreds of empty bottles, brand labels, and packaging materials of high-end and popular alcoholic brands—including Royal Circle Premium Whisky, Action Bitters, and Smirnoff—ready to be refilled with unverified chemical mixtures.

Ojo stated that the facility served as a primary storage and distribution hub where empty containers collected across the state were sorted, washed in unhygienic conditions, and refilled for public consumption.

NAFDAC sealed off the premises and confiscated the packaging materials while launching a manhunt for the syndicate leaders behind the operation.

The regulatory agency reiterated its warning to members of the public to remain vigilant when purchasing bottled spirits and urged consumers to report suspicious manufacturing activities within residential areas to prevent alcohol poisoning and related public health emergencies.
