SOKOTO — Ahead of the 2027 political transition, the Amanyanabo of Elem Kalabari Kingdom in Rivers State, Alhaji Asari Dokubo, and the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, have called for stronger bilateral ties and deeper socio-political integration between northern Nigeria and the South-South region.
The call was made on Wednesday during a high-level courtesy visit paid by Dokubo to the Sultan at his palace in Sokoto.
During the meeting, Dokubo highlighted the historical and cultural links bridging the North and the Niger Delta, describing the Sultan as an amiable and unifying personality whose leadership continues to foster peace across ethnic and religious divides. He emphasized that fostering political harmony, mutual trust, and economic synergy between both regions remains essential for long-term national stability as the nation approaches the 2027 general elections.
Welcoming his guest, Sultan Sa’ad Abubakar, who also serves as the President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), expressed gratitude for the visit, noting that proactive inter-regional engagements are key to consolidating national cohesion.
The Sultan also highlighted pressing security issues, particularly pointing to rising cross-border crimes and insecurity driven by porous national borders, urging community and traditional leaders across the North and South to collaborate closely with security agencies to protect lives and property.
