The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has raised the alarm over what it describes as a “coordinated sabotage campaign” aimed at discrediting its leadership and derailing its ongoing reforms.
In a public notice released on Thursday, the state-owned oil company alleged that a syndicate comprising both internal and external actors is behind a wave of misinformation and fabricated reports targeting the company’s management.
According to NNPC Ltd., the orchestrated campaign is designed to undermine its transformation into a transparent, performance-driven and corruption-free energy company, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s reform mandate.
“This group is actively spreading lies and misinformation simply to discredit NNPC Ltd.’s leadership and derail the organisation’s ongoing transformation,” the statement read.
The company accused the unnamed saboteurs of planting scandalous and false stories to distract its leadership, mislead the public, and discourage staff and reform-minded Nigerians.
“These are calculated efforts by those who feel threatened by reform, transparency, accountability, and change—clear evidence of the lengths to which they will go to obstruct the transformation of Nigeria’s foremost energy institution,” the statement continued.
NNPC Ltd. warned that an increase in defamatory content should be expected in the coming days but assured that it remains undeterred in its mission.
“The transformation is underway, and no amount of sabotage will stop it,” the company asserted.
The management called on its staff, stakeholders, and patriotic Nigerians to stay focused and disregard any distractions, reiterating its commitment to accountability and institutional reform.
The notice was signed by the management of NNPC Ltd. and dated June 27, 2025.
