KADUNA — The Kaduna State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) has officially endorsed Governor Uba Sani for a second term in the upcoming 2027 gubernatorial election, describing his administration as deeply compassionate toward senior citizens and civil service retirees.
The union announced the endorsement during a solidarity visit to the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna, on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, citing the Governor’s prompt payment of retirement benefits, upward review of pension entitlements, and pro-poor welfare policies.
Speaking on behalf of the retirees, NUP leadership commended Governor Sani for prioritizing the clearance of lingering gratuity backlogs and implementing a 200 percent pension increase for retired permanent secretaries, while approving similar upward reviews for lower-cadre retirees.
Addressing the delegation, Governor Sani emphasized that an efficient civil service relies on ensuring dignified post-retirement livelihoods, promising that his administration will continue to adjust pension structures to align with prevailing economic realities.
“Civil service is critical; when you don’t have a good civil service, nothing works in government,” Governor Sani stated. “Paying pensioners a living entitlement is not just a moral obligation—it motivates active workers in service today to give their best to the state.”
To enhance the operational capacity of the union, the Governor also acceded to the retirees’ request by donating an operational vehicle to the NUP Kaduna State Chapter and allocating land within Kaduna metropolis for the construction of its state secretariat.
The endorsement marks another major political boost for the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State as key stakeholder groups, trade unions, and civic organizations align ahead of the 2027 general elections.
