ABUJA — The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) has issued a national public health alert following the confirmation of an imported Ebola virus case in Kenya, urging Nigerians and healthcare providers to maintain heightened vigilance across all entry points and medical facilities.
In an official public advisory released on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, the NCDC disclosed that its National Reference Laboratory and Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) have been placed on high alert to monitor regional developments and prevent any potential importation into Nigeria.
The agency stated that port health services at all international airports, seaports, and land borders have intensified screening measures—including mandatory health declarations, temperature checks, and visual screening—for passengers arriving from East Africa and affected regions.
NCDC Director-General urged state ministries of health, rapid response teams, and clinical personnel to immediately reinforce isolation protocols, ensure adequate stockpiles of personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain a high index of suspicion for patients presenting with unexplained fever, bleeding, or extreme malaise.
The health authority reassured the public that Nigeria currently has zero confirmed or suspected cases of Ebola, emphasizing that the advisory is a proactive measure to safeguard national health security and ensure early detection in the event of an exposure risk.
