LAGOS — The final funeral rites for legendary Nigerian actor and film icon Oludotun Baiyewu Jacobs, popularly known as Olu Jacobs, commenced on Friday morning, October 2, 2026, with a funeral service at This Present House Church in Lekki, Lagos.
The solemn service drew prominent political figures, captain of industries, traditional leaders, and high-profile creative arts stakeholders to pay their last respects to the late multi-award-winning thespian, who passed away on September 16, 2026, at the age of 84.
Dignitaries in attendance included the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat; First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu; and former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, alongside executive delegations from state governments across the South-West region.
The service was marked by emotionally charged tributes and musical performances, including a rendition of the hit track Pray for Me by entertainment entrepreneur Dare Art Alade—a piece originally featuring the late actor and his wife, veteran actress Joke Silva.
Following the church service in Lekki, the family will proceed with a private interment ceremony, concluding a multi-day national celebration of Jacobs’ monumental legacy across African theater and cinema.
