ABUJA — Former Governor of Cross River State and presidential candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Donald Duke, has vowed to drastically cut the pump price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to approximately N300 per litre under his administration if elected president in 2027.
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, Duke argued that high energy costs remain the primary driver of national inflation and widespread economic hardship across Nigerian households.
The PRP flagbearer criticized current pricing structures, noting that forcing citizens to spend a significant portion of the N70,000 national minimum wage simply to fuel vehicles or power small businesses places an intolerable strain on low-income earners. He emphasized that the fundamental duty of government is to guarantee citizen productivity by ensuring critical economic inputs like fuel remain affordable and readily accessible.
Duke asserted that lowering fuel costs to N300 per litre is achievable through clear arithmetic and policy restructuring, insisting that his economic blueprint focuses on maximizing national crude processing capacity and commercializing refining by-products rather than relying on heavy citizen taxation.
Addressing the broader political climate ahead of the 2027 general elections, the former governor urged opposition figures to look beyond merely unseating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). He challenged competing presidential candidates to engage in robust public policy debates centered on practical solutions for economic recovery, security restoration, and electoral integrity.
