Tinubu mourns NADECO chieftain Ralph Obioha

ABUJA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sadness over the passing of elder statesman, Second Republic lawmaker, and founding chieftain of the National Democratic Coalition (NADECO), Chief Ralph Obioha, describing his death as a monumental loss to the nation’s democratic struggles.

In a condolence statement issued on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, President Tinubu paid glowing tribute to the late political leader, who passed away on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the age of 80.

Reflecting on their shared history during the pro-democracy movement of the 1990s, President Tinubu lauded Chief Obioha’s unwavering courage and personal sacrifices in the fight against military rule and the validation of the June 12, 1993, presidential mandate.

“On behalf of the Federal Government and the people of Nigeria, I extend my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones,” President Tinubu stated. “May the memory of Chief Ralph Obioha endure as a reminder that the building of a nation requires courage, sacrifice, conviction, and faith.”

Chief Obioha, who represented Ideato Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives during the Second Republic, was among the prominent figures who put personal safety and business interests on the line to challenge military dictatorship and advocate for true federalism across Nigeria.

The President prayed for the repose of the late patriot’s soul and urged his family, associates, and the people of Imo State to find solace in the enduring democratic legacy he left behind.
