NEW YORK — Argentine President Javier Milei delivered a blistering attack on the United Nations during his address at the UN General Assembly in New York, branding the global body a “useless organisation” that has abandoned its original mandate to serve as a self-sustaining bureaucratic elite.
Addressing world leaders on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, the libertarian leader asserted that the international body has strayed far from its founding commitment to collective security and human rights, transforming instead into a “bureaucratic leviathan” that imposes overreach on sovereign nations.
In his third address to the General Debate as head of state, Milei claimed the UN has allowed chaos, violence, and international terrorism to persist while offering shelter to authoritarian regimes. He accused the organisation of operating as a vehicle “whose only purpose is to sustain a caste of fatally arrogant parasites masquerading as well-intentioned bureaucrats”.
Highlighting geopolitical alignments, Milei criticized member states for systematically voting against Israel while remaining silent on global extremism. He reaffirmed Argentina’s full alignment with the West, the United States, and Israel, pointing to his administration’s formal designation of the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.
The Argentine president also trained his sights on the UN’s handling of the sovereignty dispute over the Falkland Islands (known in Argentina as the Malvinas). Accusing the body of failing to enforce Resolution 31/49 regarding unilateral resource exploitation, Milei condemned British-licensed offshore oil extraction on Argentina’s continental shelf as illegal and called on the United Kingdom to immediately resume formal bilateral negotiations.
Expanding his critique to global regulation, Milei denounced historical pandemic-era lockdowns as a “global experiment in social control,” referencing Argentina’s withdrawal from the World Health Organization (WHO). He further warned against pre-emptive international regulation of artificial intelligence, declaring that Argentina will position itself as a global hub for free-market technology and innovation.
Despite his sharp rhetoric, Milei clarified that Argentina will continue participating in multilateral diplomacy in good faith, emphasizing that international cooperation must never be confused with ideological subordination to external mandates.
