The friction reached a boiling point following a public alarm raised by the opposition party, which claimed that the former Kaduna State Governor’s health has deteriorated drastically while inside the commission’s Abuja interrogation facility. The development has injected fresh volatility into Nigeria’s shifting pre-2027 political alliances, with the ADC openly accusing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration of deploying state apparatus to weaponize a anti-corruption drive against perceived political rivals.

Trouble reportedly flared at the anti-graft commission’s headquarters when a high-powered delegation from the ADC, accompanied by family members seeking to deliver domestic provisions, was turned away by heavily armed operatives.
In a strongly worded press statement signed by the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party described the incident as a flagrant violation of fundamental human rights and standard administrative bail procedures.
