LAGOS — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has concluded his four-week working vacation in Europe and departed Paris, France, for Lagos, Nigeria, on Tuesday, September 29, 2026.
The presidential aircraft, which departed Paris in the afternoon, is scheduled to land at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos later this evening.
A statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, confirmed that President Tinubu will make his first stop in Lagos to observe the country’s upcoming 66th Independence Anniversary celebrations.
During his stay in Lagos, the President is scheduled to attend the official premiere of a commemorative film dedicated to the late Chief MKO Abiola—winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election—holding at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Iganmu on Independence Day.
The Presidency further disclosed that President Tinubu will utilize his time in Lagos to conduct strategic political consultations with key party stakeholders, regional leaders, and political associates in line with early alignment strategy ahead of the 2027 general elections, before returning to the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
During his European working tour—which began with a stop in London on August 30 before moving to Paris—President Tinubu engaged in high-level private discussions with French President Emmanuel Macron, hosted business executives including Vincent Bolloré and Chairman of First Bank Holdings Femi Otedola, and witnessed the signing of a $7 billion port expansion agreement between the Ogun State Government and DP World.
The President’s return ends weeks of political debate, legal challenges, and calls by opposition groups regarding the invocation of constitutional handover provisions during executive absences.
