ABEOKUTA — Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has announced that physical construction work on the highly anticipated Ogun Deep Sea Port project located in the Olokola Free Trade Zone will officially commence in November 2026.
The Governor made the declaration during an executive stakeholders’ briefing in Abeokuta, affirming that all preliminary regulatory approvals, environmental impact assessments, and technical concession framework negotiations with international port operators have been successfully finalized.
Governor Abiodun highlighted that the multi-billion dollar maritime infrastructure is strategically designed to relieve pressure on the overburdened Lagos port corridors, expand Nigeria’s maritime capacity, and position Ogun State as a major industrial logistics hub in West Africa.
He assured potential investors and local communities that the project will create thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities, boost state internally generated revenue, and accelerate the development of host coastal communities across the state.
The Ogun State Government reaffirmed its full commitment to working alongside federal regulatory agencies and private equity partners to ensure seamless execution and timely delivery of the deep seaport project.
