ABUJA — The Federal Ministry of Education has officially published the final list of ranked and approved instructional textbooks for basic and senior secondary schools across Nigeria for the 2026–2028 academic cycle.
The approval—granted by Minister of Education Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa alongside Minister of State for Education Prof. Suwaiba Sa’id Ahmad—concludes the first phase of the national textbook evaluation exercise intended to align classroom learning with the newly updated national school curriculum.
To combat the spread of substandard publications, unauthorized instructional materials, and counterfeit books, the Federal Government has introduced a mandatory Ranking/QR Tracking Code alongside every approved title, author, publisher, and year of publication.
The first phase of the roll-out covers entry and transition levels, specifically Primary 1, Primary 4, Junior Secondary School 1 (JSS 1), and Senior Secondary School 1 (SS 1). The Ministry confirmed that a second phase will follow shortly to evaluate and rank instructional materials for Primary 2, Primary 5, JSS 2, and SS 2 under the same digital tracking system.
The Ministry acknowledged that generating and attaching individual QR tracking codes to every approved entry extended the validation timeline, but noted that the step remains essential to ensuring quality assurance, intellectual property protection, and administrative transparency.
All public and private school administrators, state Universal Basic Education Boards (SUBEBs), book publishers, and procurement officers have been instructed to consult the official 2026–2028 register and ensure strict compliance when purchasing or recommending instructional materials for the affected classes.
