LAGOS — Ikeja Electric Plc (IE) has officially commenced the disbursement of refunds to customers who previously paid for prepaid electricity meters under the Meter Asset Provider (MAP) framework.
The announcement was made during the distribution company’s (DisCo) September virtual stakeholder engagement. The initiative follows regulatory directives from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) instructing DisCos to clear outstanding reimbursements owed to consumers who financed their meter acquisitions.
Under the approved schedule, eligible customers across the IE network will receive their full reimbursements incrementally through energy credits applied automatically to their electricity vending transactions.
Key Operational Details & Refund Tracking
-
Reimbursement Structure: Payments are processed as additional electricity vending credits (refund tokens) issued automatically to registered accounts during routine energy purchases over the approved refund period.
-
Online Tracking Dashboard: Ikeja Electric has activated a dedicated online portal allowing customers to monitor their status using either their meter number or account number.
-
Dashboard Readouts: The portal displays the total meter cost, refund count, monthly refund breakdown, cumulative amount credited to date, last refund date, and active refund token history.
-
Regulatory Oversight: NERC mandated the 12-month resolution plan after auditing over ₦20.33 billion in outstanding MAP meter obligations across the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry (NESI).
-
Safety & Customer Advisory: Alongside the update, IE’s Head of Quality, Health, Safety & Environment, Olaniyi Olayiwola, issued a strict warning against hiring unauthorized electricians to modify installations or climb network poles, citing recent fatal incidents across the distribution area.
