Why I linked Isbae U with Obasanjo for his show interview — Charly Boy

LAGOS — Veteran entertainer and socio-political activist, Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has revealed the motivation behind facilitating the viral sit-down interview between online content creator Adebayo Ridwan Abidemi (Isbae U) and former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The interview, aired on Saturday, September 19, 2026, on Isbae U’s popular satirical YouTube show Curiosity Made Me Ask, generated widespread conversation across Nigerian digital space after the host engaged the nonagenarian statesman in his signature provocative and sarcastic format.
Addressing his role as the strategic bridge between the young comedian and the former president, Charly Boy explained that his decision was rooted in a desire to foster meaningful intergenerational collaboration and create tangible platforms for Nigerian youth.
In a public statement released following the release of the episode, the “Area Fada” urged the older generation of Nigerian leaders to move beyond rhetoric and actively open doors for young talent. He emphasized that elder statesmen should not merely advise the youth to succeed, but actively recommend them, trust them with high-level access, and grant them opportunities to showcase their capabilities on national and global stages.
Concurrently, Charly Boy challenged the younger generation to remain prepared and build valuable skills so they can capitalize on major opportunities when presented. He noted that real progress and legacy occur when different generations leverage their respective strengths to support one another.
The former president’s appearance on the show also touched on his personal relationship with Charly Boy. During the sit-down, Obasanjo recalled that he initially held little regard for the entertainer due to his unconventional public image and lifestyle. However, the former president disclosed that his perspective changed significantly after visiting Charly Boy’s residence and witnessing firsthand the exemplary filial care and devotion he accorded his late father, the respected jurist Justice Chukwudifu Oputa.
The high-profile endorsement and facilitation highlight a growing shift toward bridging Nigeria’s traditional political establishment with the dynamic creator economy powering modern youth culture.
