ABUJA — The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that he will immediately resign his cabinet position if President Bola Ahmed Tinubu fails to secure victory in the FCT and Rivers State during the upcoming 2027 presidential election.
Wike made the high-stakes political commitment in Abuja during an interactive session with members of the Apo Traders Association, asserting his absolute confidence in mobilizing cross-party political structures to deliver both strategic jurisdictions for the President.
The minister affirmed that while Rivers State remains his primary political base, the FCT represents his current administrative domain, stressing that failing to deliver maximum electoral support across both territories would render him unqualified to retain his ministerial portfolio.
He revealed that an inclusive, multi-party campaign coalition—dubbed the Rainbow Coalition—is already actively consolidating alliances across local area councils to support President Tinubu’s reelection bid alongside selected legislative candidates.
The bold declaration underscores Wike’s deepening political commitment to the ruling administration amidst ongoing opposition alignments and internal party frictions across the geopolitical zones ahead of the 2027 general elections.
