Federal High Court Refuses Bail to Detained ‘PFIPC’ DG Adeniyi Adeyemi

ABUJA — The Federal High Court in Abuja has declined to grant bail to Prince Adeniyi Mathew Adeyemi, the self-styled Director-General of the non-existent Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC).

Ruling on an ex-parte motion on Thursday, September 3, 2026, Justice Obiora Egwuatu held that granting bail without hearing from the police and other respondents would violate the fundamental principle of fair hearing.

Adeyemi, who was arrested in Osun State after evading a bench warrant issued in July, had sued the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), and an Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), seeking six reliefs including immediate bail, medical attention of his choice, and protection from police interrogation without legal representation.

While declining five of the six reliefs—including bail and medical release—Justice Egwuatu granted one relief, ordering the IGP and AGF to allow Adeyemi unhindered access to his legal team to prepare his defense. The court also ordered the respondents to show cause within 72 hours why the remaining reliefs should not be granted and adjourned the matter to September 9, 2026.

Adeyemi currently faces an eight-count criminal charge (FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025) before Justice Mohammed Garba Umar bordering on forgery, impersonation, and operating a fraudulent agency from the Federal Secretariat Complex in Abuja. His formal arraignment on those charges is scheduled for September 30, 2026.
