Muhammed Babangida, son of former Nigerian Military President Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, has firmly denied reports that he rejected his recent appointment by President Bola Tinubu as Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture (BOA).
The denial comes after a letter, circulated online by African Democratic Congress (ADC) chieftain Dele Momodu, claimed Babangida had declined the position.
In an official press statement released on Monday, Babangida categorically disowned the purported rejection letter. He instead expressed “deep gratitude” to President Tinubu for the appointment and the “trust reposed in him,” confirming his acceptance of the BOA Chairmanship.
Babangida characterized the claims of his rejection as a “deliberate attempt to mislead the public and tarnish the image of the Tinubu administration.” His statement, issued through his media office, vowed that those responsible for the “fake publication” would be identified and held accountable.
“We wish to clarify that Muhammed gratefully accepts the appointment… and extends his sincere appreciation to President Tinubu,” the statement read. It further assured the public that “those spreading these falsehoods will be thoroughly investigated and brought to justice,” emphasizing a commitment to “transparency, accountability, and fostering unity within our nation.”
The statement concluded by urging Nigerians to be discerning and verify information through credible sources.
President Tinubu announced Babangida’s appointment, along with others, this past Saturday.
