ABUJA — Tensions have resurfaced within the coalition supporting Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso following a sharp rebuke issued by the Obi-Kwankwaso (OK) Movement against the newly released Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) National Campaign Council list.
The group’s critique follows the official release of the campaign council hierarchy, which named former Bayelsa State Governor Senator Henry Seriake Dickson as Chairman, presidential candidate Peter Obi as Co-Chairman, and vice-presidential candidate Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as Co-Vice Chairman.
In a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, October 26, 2026, the Director-General of the OK Movement, John Ughulu, strongly faulted the party’s executive leadership over the exclusion of key movement coordinators across the state, local government, and ward levels. Ughulu further criticized the timing of the release, arguing that the delay in establishing an operational campaign apparatus severely undermines the opposition’s readiness.
“With less than three months to the general elections, they are only just announcing their Presidential Campaign Council,” Ughulu stated. “What exactly have they been doing all this time? Where is the structure? Where is the strategy? Where is the machinery required to prosecute a serious national election?”
The dispute highlights ongoing friction between the formal NDC party machinery and the independent OK Movement over control of grassroots campaign structures. While party leadership maintains that support groups must operate within the central party framework, the OK Movement insists its nationwide network possesses a stronger grassroots footprint and should not be marginalized in the strategic execution of the 2027 presidential campaign.
