The Senate of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has approved the expulsion of 171 students over falsification of admission entry qualifications.
The decision was taken at the institution’s 433rd Senate meeting held on March 4, 2026, following the outcome of an investigation conducted by the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities.
According to a statement published in the university’s weekly official bulletin dated March 20, 2026, the committee uncovered widespread discrepancies in the credentials submitted by the affected students during the admission process.
The university described the offence as a violation of Section 20.7, Category A (vii) of its General Examinations and Academic Regulations (GEAR), which prescribes expulsion as the penalty for such academic misconduct.
The affected students cut across various departments and levels, indicating what the institution described as a broad effort to sanitise its academic records.
In a separate decision, the Senate also approved the expulsion of Yusuf Muhammad Sani, a student of the Department of Civil Engineering, for assaulting invigilators during an examination.
The university said the incident disrupted the conduct of the exercise and contravened its regulations on student discipline.
The management reiterated its commitment to upholding academic integrity, warning that violations of its rules would continue to attract appropriate sanctions.
The statement added that the action serves as a warning to both current and prospective students on the institution’s zero-tolerance stance on academic fraud and indiscipline.
