AKURE — Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has approved and commenced the disbursement of ₦400 million in bursary awards and financial scholarships to students from the state enrolled in tertiary institutions across the country.
The disbursement was officially flagged off during a ceremony in Akure, where state education officials and student union representatives gathered to receive the presentation. The fund, managed through the Ondo State Scholarship Board, is designed to relieve financial pressures on parents and undergraduate students navigating current economic conditions.
Under the approved funding structure, ₦200 million has been earmarked for general bursary allocations distributed to undergraduate students of Ondo State origin in federal and state universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. The remaining ₦200 million is allocated toward specialized scholarship categories, catering to high-performing students, persons living with disabilities, and individuals pursuing post-graduate research degrees in critical fields.
Addressing students during the flag-off, Governor Aiyedatiwa highlighted that the prompt release of the bursaries reflects his administration’s commitment to educational advancement and human capital development. He urged the beneficiaries to deploy the financial support strictly toward academic materials, tuition fees, and personal development, reassuring the student body that education funding will remain a priority within the state’s fiscal expenditure.
Leadership from the National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS) commended the state government for fulfilling its promise, noting that the timely release of the funds will significantly ease the burden of academic costs for thousands of undergraduates across the state.
