The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially joined the ranks of high-stake political players ahead of the 2027 General Elections, unveiling a price tag for its nomination forms that has sent shockwaves through the political landscape.
Following a marathon session of the National Working Committee (NWC) at the party’s headquarters in Wuse II, Abuja, the NDC announced that aspirants eyeing the presidential ticket must part with N60 million, while those seeking governorship seats are required to pay N30 million.

Speaking to journalists after the announcement, the National Chairman of the NDC, Senator Cleopas Moses Zuwoghe, maintained that the prices were a reflection of the current economic reality in the country. He noted that the cost of conducting primaries, mobilizing grassroots support, and maintaining party infrastructure necessitates a robust financial base.
“We are not just a political party; we are a movement preparing to govern,” Sen. Moses stated. “While we acknowledge the concerns regarding the fees, we must also ensure that those seeking these high offices have the capacity to drive a serious national campaign. Furthermore, the NDC remains committed to the 50% discount policy for women, youths under 35, and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).”
Mixed Reactions
The announcement has already drawn sharp criticism from civil society organizations. The Coalition for Democratic Inclusion described the move as “plutocratic,” arguing that such high fees effectively disenfranchise competent but less wealthy Nigerians.
However, party loyalists argue that the NDC’s fees remain significantly lower than those of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), which recently pegged its presidential forms at N100 million. As the January 2027 election date approaches, the NDC’s move signals that despite being a relatively newer force in its current form, it is prepared to compete at the highest financial level of Nigerian politics.
