Trump Warns Iran as US-Oman Interim Talks Near Deal

By Lagos Times Correspondent

US President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Tehran, declaring that the strategic Strait of Hormuz will either be reopened through diplomatic agreement “very soon” or Iran will be “hit very hard” by massive American military action.

Speaking during an interview with Fox News and addressing reporters in California, Trump disclosed that Washington, Oman, and Tehran were engaged in intensive negotiations toward a temporary 60-day arrangement to safely restore maritime traffic through the vital oil and gas shipping choke point.

Key Operational Highlights

  • Diplomatic Ultimatum: Trump warned that while Washington prefers a negotiated resolution, any failure or withdrawal by Tehran will trigger overwhelming military strikes, emphasizing that Iran will not be allowed to acquire a nuclear weapon.

  • Proposed 60-Day Transit Arrangement: Mediated by Oman and regional partners including Qatar, the draft agreement proposes a 60-day temporary traffic scheme: inbound shipping into the Gulf via a northern route in Iranian waters and outbound traffic via a southern lane in Omani waters, without transit fees or tolls.

  • Demining Operation: The framework includes clearing naval mines from the central lane of the Strait within 30 days to facilitate a permanent two-way shipping channel.

  • Economic & Energy Impact: Trump projected that a peaceful resolution and unrestricted passage through Hormuz could drive global crude and retail fuel prices down significantly.

“Action Is All That Matters”

Outlining the choices facing Iranian leadership, President Donald Trump emphasized:

“The strait is going to be open very soon — or they’re going to get hit very hard, and then the strait’s going to be open… If they back out again, they’re going to get hit really hard. They know that. They understand that. I have no choice. They can’t have a nuclear weapon. It’s very simple.” — President Donald J. Trump

Acknowledging the ongoing mediated talks, Trump added:

“We were going into a tremendous attack, the biggest since World War II, and they called me and said, very politely, ‘Please, can we talk?’… We hit them very, very hard. But the hard hit is yet to come, and hopefully we won’t have to use it… The only thing that matters is action. And they want to make a deal. We’ll see what happens.” — President Donald J. Trump
