LAGOS, NIGERIA — The Lagos State House of Assembly has officially commenced the screening and review process for Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s request to reorder the 2026 Lagos State Appropriation Law.

The executive request was formally committed to the House Committee on Economic Planning and Budget following its second reading on the floor of the Assembly, presided over by Speaker Mudashiru Obasa.

Key Details & Focus Areas

  • Fiscal Realignment: The reordering proposal seeks to realign capital and recurrent expenditure priorities within the existing fiscal framework without inflating the total size of the 2026 budget.

  • Priority Sectors: Executive communication indicates that the reordered funds will primarily reinforce ongoing critical infrastructure projects, emergency flood control initiatives, public transport expansion, and health sector interventions across the state.

  • Committee Mandate: The Assembly’s budget committee has been directed to invite relevant heads of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to justify proposed shifts in their capital allocations before a final report is laid before the House.
