ABUJA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the operationalization of new Nigerian Army formations across Zamfara, Kebbi, Oyo, and Osun states, stating that positioning troops closer to vulnerable communities will significantly enhance the military’s capacity to respond swiftly and decisively to emerging security threats.
In an official public statement issued on Sunday, October 4, 2026, the President outlined nationwide measures being implemented by his administration to elevate the operational readiness, infrastructure, and general welfare of the Armed Forces of Nigeria.
“Our troops are now closer to vulnerable communities in these areas, strengthening our ability to respond swiftly and decisively when our people are threatened,” President Tinubu stated, emphasizing that operational reorganization will streamline command structures and improve joint tactical coordination.
Addressing ongoing military infrastructure expansion, the President disclosed that the Federal Government is fast-tracking the construction of new barracks and military depots in Abuja, Ekiti, Ebonyi, and Kogi states, while confirming that similar housing and operational facilities in Osun State have already been completed.
Highlighting troop welfare as central to national defense strategy, Tinubu noted that recent upward pay adjustments and upgraded healthcare support for servicemen and women are already boosting operational morale.
The strategic deployment of new military formations in the South-West and North-West geopolitical zones comes amid heightened public concern over rural security, illegal mining banditry, and cross-border highway abductions, reinforcing the administration’s policy focus on territorial integrity and community protection.
