ABUJA — The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially lifted its long-standing restriction on changing candidates’ registered phone numbers and email addresses, introducing a controlled mechanism for applicants who have genuinely lost access to their original contact credentials.
The revised policy, announced on Monday, September 21, 2026, by the Board’s Acting Director of Public Affairs and Protocols, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, takes immediate effect across designated Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres and state offices nationwide. The concession addresses widespread difficulties faced by Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) candidates who were previously locked out of their e-Facility profiles due to lost SIM cards, stolen phones, or inaccessible email accounts.
JAMB had historically prohibited online contact adjustments to prevent impersonation, unauthorized record alteration, and examination fraud. However, the examination body explained that the deployment of enhanced security protocols—including mandatory biometric verification—has enabled the board to reintroduce the feature without compromising data integrity.
Under the approved guidelines, candidates seeking to update their details must first log into their e-Facility profile using existing credentials, select “SIM Swap/eMail Change Payment” from the transaction portal, and pay the prescribed processing fee. Upon payment, the applicant must present themselves in person at an accredited JAMB CBT centre with a new GSM number or email address, alongside a duly executed court affidavit ready for digital upload.
Final authorization for any profile alteration requires physical biometric authentication at the CBT terminal. The Board emphasized that the update window is strictly a one-time concession per candidate, cautioning applicants to verify all replacement details before final submission, as additional changes will not be permitted. Candidates were further warned against patronizing third-party vendors or unauthorized cybercafés, as processing remains restricted exclusively to official JAMB state offices and approved registration hubs.
