ABUJA — The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT), Abdulrasheed Abdullahi Maina, wanted over new allegations bordering on receiving stolen property.
The public declaration was issued on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, in an official notice signed by the Commission’s Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale. Featuring photographs and personal profile details of the 61-year-old Borno State indigene, the anti-graft agency urged anyone with actionable intelligence regarding Maina’s whereabouts to report to the nearest EFCC office or security agency.
The fresh wanted notice comes 19 months after Maina was released from the Kuje Correctional Centre in Abuja on February 25, 2025, upon completing part of an eight-year prison term following statutory remissions for good conduct. Maina had been convicted in November 2021 by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja on money laundering charges involving over ₦2 billion in stolen pension funds.
While the EFCC did not immediately publish specific details regarding the origin or scope of the stolen property under investigation, legal sources noted that Maina has been facing a separate ongoing nine-count charge before the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory involving ₦738.6 million in alleged biometric enrolment contract fraud. The FCT High Court had previously issued warnings in early 2026 regarding potential bail revocations due to procedural delays.
Maina’s legal journey has featured high-profile arrests, including his extraditions from neighboring Niger Republic in late 2020 after jumping bail during his initial trial. The anti-graft agency reiterated that it will exhaust all legal avenues to bring the former pension chief back into custody to answer the pending allegations.
