Gov. Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom has urged corps members deployed to the state to be security conscious by avoiding night traveling during the service year.
Eno made the call on Tuesday at the closing of the orientation course for the 2025 Batch C corps members in Ikot Itie Udung, Nsit Atai Local Governmenr Area.
Represented by Mr Emmanuel Akpabio, the Director, Youth Development, Ministry of Youth Development, Eno urged the corps members to always use known public transport companies.
“Please avoid travelling at night no matter how urgent it may be. Seek temporary shelter at a safe location if your journey extends beyond 6.00p.m.
“A corps lodge, police station or military barrack will be safe for you. Night traveling is dangerous. Please, be wise, prioritise your safety,” he said.
Eno further urged them to board vehicles at designated motor parks with well documented manifests, adding, ”always share your locations with friends and families”
“Remember the security numbers and tips that you were given, please use them in the event of emergencies,” he said.
The governor also urged corps members posted to the state to play a pivotal role in their places of primary assignment, and respect the culture and tradition of their host communities.
“You are expected to play a significant role in enlightening our people on their civic responsibilities and in strengthening our collective pursuit of a just, progressive and prosperous society,” he said.
Earlier, the NYSC Coordinator in Akwa Ibom, Mr Sam Pepple, said that the orientation course was to prepare the corps members for the tasks ahead.
Pepple said that during the exercise, the corps members exhibited discipline, resilience, and displayed the needed leadership capacity for nation building.
