ABUJA — Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Olatunji Disu has given firm assurances that the conduct, professionalism, and operational readiness of police personnel before, during, and after the 2027 general elections will make Nigerians proud.
Speaking through Deputy Inspector-General of Police Isyaku Mohammed during a strategic electoral stakeholder engagement held in Abuja on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, the police chief affirmed that the force is actively implementing robust intelligence-gathering frameworks, comprehensive personnel training, and enhanced surveillance mechanisms to prevent election-related violence and voter intimidation nationwide.
Drawing from successful security strategies deployed during recent off-cycle governorship elections, the IGP noted that tailored security templates are being developed to address unique security challenges across individual states ahead of the national polls.
He reiterated that the force remains committed to strict political neutrality, warning that security personnel will take decisive legal action against political actors, thugs, and violent groups attempting to disrupt electoral processes or compromise voter safety regardless of party affiliations.
While acknowledging concerns raised by Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) leadership regarding political intimidation and equitable campaign access, the police leadership urged political parties and candidates to focus on issue-based campaigns and uphold democratic norms throughout the electoral cycle.
