ABUJA — The Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), comprising state chief executives on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has formally drawn a line in the sand against the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, distancing themselves from his cross-party “Rainbow Coalition” ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Following a high-level, closed-door emergency meeting in Abuja, the APC governors unanimously resolved that no member of the governing party will participate in, support, or endorse any political alliance that risks creating ticket-splitting, voter confusion, or structural weakness for APC candidates at state and legislative levels.
The formal pushback marks a sharp escalation in internal party friction between Wike—a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain serving in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s cabinet—and key APC governors, particularly Progressive Governors’ Forum Chairman Hope Uzodimma (Imo State) and Nigeria Governors’ Forum Chairman AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara State).
“The APC Governors’ Forum unanimously resolved that its members will not participate in, support, or endorse any alliance or political arrangement capable of undermining the re-election of Mr. President, weakening the APC, or adversely affecting any candidate of the party at all levels,” announced Governor Hope Uzodimma after the meeting.
