Apapa Customs records N28.1bn in single-day revenue

LAGOS, NIGERIA — The flagship Apapa Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has set a new single-day revenue record, generating N28.1 billion on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.

The single-day haul breaks the command’s former daily benchmark of N20.1 billion recorded in September 2025. This operational milestone comes on the heels of the command’s monthly record of N323 billion collected in July 2026.

Core Catalysts Behind the Surge

Addressing senior officers and terminal operators in Lagos, the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Comptroller Emmanuel Oshoba, attributed the surge in daily collections to structural and technological initiatives:

  • Digital Process Efficiency: Upgrades to the B’Odogwu digital customs management platform have streamlined clearance documentation and minimized operational downtime.

  • Enhanced Trade Facilitation: Expanded adoption of the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) program—with over 200 enrolled beneficiaries—alongside the One-Stop Shop (OSS) framework has accelerated cargo clearance for compliant operators.

  • Targeted Valuation & Interventions: Intelligence-driven enforcement teams intensified checks against false declarations, ensuring strict compliance with statutory valuation principles.

  • Forex Market Stability: Relative stability in the foreign exchange market provided greater predictability for importers and commercial clearing agents.
