Bismarck Rewane Urges Nigerians to Buy Dangote IPO Shares Instead of Monopolizing PVCs for Cash

ABUJA — Prominent economist and Chief Executive Officer of Financial Derivatives Company (FDC), Bismarck Rewane, has advised Nigerians to prioritize long-term wealth creation by participating in the upcoming Dangote Petroleum Refinery Initial Public Offering (IPO) rather than surrendering their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for short-term political inducement.

Speaking during an investor roadshow session in Abuja, Rewane emphasized that the low entry bar for the refinery’s landmark public offer—set at a minimum subscription of 10 shares priced at ₦525 per share (₦5,250 minimum investment)—provides ordinary citizens, artisans, and retail investors with an accessible vehicle to build generational assets.

Rewane argued that selling one’s vote or PVC for immediate cash handouts offers fleeting relief, whereas taking advantage of impact investments like the ₦2.1 trillion Dangote Refinery IPO allows citizens to share in the broader expansion of Nigeria’s downstream energy sector and capital market growth.

Key Macroeconomic & Retail Investor Insights

  • Transformative Scale: Rewane projected that the total ₦2.1 trillion public offer—comprising 4.1 billion ordinary shares—could serve as a major catalyst for the Nigerian economy, with potential to support long-term GDP growth up to $600 billion by 2030 through expanded industrial output and export revenues.

  • Capital Market Expansion: The listing is expected to boost the market capitalization of the Nigerian Exchange (NGX) significantly, broadening retail participation across an estimated 10 million individual investors.

  • Incentives for Long-Term Holders: The offer structure includes a 1-for-10 bonus share incentive for retail investors who hold their allotted shares for a minimum of 12 months, encouraging a culture of sustained investment over quick profit-taking.

  • Public Offer Opening: Book-building and order processing for the historic public offering are scheduled to open formally across authorized digital channels and stockbrokers on Monday, September 14, 2026.
