ABUJA — The Federal Government, through the National Sports Commission (NSC), has confirmed the full payment of the naira equivalent of $100,000 to each player of Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, fulfilling President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s presidential reward package following their historic fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s AfroBasket title and seventh continental crown overall.
The confirmation—issued on Thursday, September 10, 2026, by NSC Director of Information and Public Relations, Dr. Kehinde Ajayi—noted that bank accounts of all players and coaching staff were credited on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, with team members confirming receipt. In addition to the $100,000 player payouts, each team official received the naira equivalent of $50,000.
The cash disbursement completes the presidential honor package pledged by President Tinubu, which also included three-bedroom apartments in Abuja and national honors of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON). D’Tigress players had previously received title documents (Certificate of Occupancy) for their housing units and national honor certificates during the FIBA World Cup qualifiers in Lyon, France.
The National Sports Commission further disclosed that a similar reward framework for the Super Falcons—comprising $100,000 per player, $50,000 per official, three-bedroom apartments in Abuja, and OON national honors—is currently being processed following the team’s receipt of housing allocation documents during WAFCON in Morocco, with cash transfers scheduled prior to their next official international engagements.
D’Tigress publicly acknowledged the disbursement on Thursday via their official social media handles, marking the end of the presidential reward redemption process.
