WAEC Appoints Nigeria’s Dr. Amos Dangut as New Registrar and Chief Executive Officer

ACCRA — The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has officially appointed Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut as its new Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, elevating the veteran Nigerian education administrator to lead the multi-national assessment body across its member countries.

Dr. Dangut, who previously served as the Head of the Nigeria National Office (HNO) of WAEC, succeeds the outgoing Registrar, whose tenure officially concludes this month.

The appointment was formally ratified at the council’s annual international meeting, recognizing Dr. Dangut’s decades of administrative service, technological innovations in examination management, and operational leadership within the sub-regional educational framework.

Having joined the council in 1998 and risen through the administrative ranks to manage the council’s largest national division, Dr. Dangut will now oversee WAEC’s overall strategic direction, digital assessment integrations, and cross-border examination standards across Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and The Gambia.

Stakeholders and education sector leaders across West Africa have welcomed the appointment, expressing confidence that Dr. Dangut’s extensive experience will further strengthen assessment integrity, curb examination malpractice, and modernize testing infrastructure across the sub-region.
