ABUJA — Public service workers under the umbrella of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) have officially declared a three-day nationwide warning strike, set to commence at midnight on Friday, October 2, 2026, and run through Sunday, October 4, 2026.
The directive, issued through an official circular dated October 1, 2026, and signed by JNPSNC National Secretary Olowoyo Gbenga, instructs national and state leadership across eight affiliate unions to immediately mobilize public servants across federal, state, and local government tiers.
The council disclosed that the industrial action follows the Federal Government’s failure to respond to critical demands formally submitted in a memorandum to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on September 21, 2026.
Labour demands include an immediate reduction in petrol pump prices to $\text{N}500$ per liter, an interim wage award, and accelerated negotiations regarding national minimum wage structures to offset eroding real incomes and spiraling inflation.
Warning that public servants are suffering severe economic and mental strain due to high transportation costs and rising living expenses, the JNPSNC emphasized that the three-day shutdown serves as a final precursor to broader, indefinite industrial action should the administration fail to enter direct negotiations.
