ABUJA — Federal, state, and local government workers across the country have officially commenced a three-day nationwide warning strike on Friday, October 2, 2026, crippling government administrative workflows and public services following the expiration of an ultimatum issued to the Federal Government.
The strike, orchestrated by the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council (JNPSNC) and its eight affiliate public sector unions, took effect at midnight on Friday and will run through Sunday, October 4, 2026.
The organized labor leadership confirmed that the total withdrawal of services became inevitable after the Federal Government failed to meet its September 30 deadline to address core demands, notably reducing Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) prices to $\text{N}500$ per liter and implementing an interim wage award to cushion severe macroeconomic pressures.
Monitoring across key ministries, departments, agencies, and state secretariats on Friday morning revealed high compliance, with union enforcement teams ensuring government offices remained locked and skeletal administrative routines suspended.
Reiterating that the three-day industrial action serves as a direct warning to the administration, JNPSNC executives emphasized that failure to initiate immediate dialogue before Sunday will lead to an indefinite, total shutdown of public institutions across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
