ADO-EKITI — The Ekiti State Government has commenced the deployment of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses across major intra-state and inter-state transit corridors in a direct operational move to slash transport fares by 50 percent for commuters.
The rollout, which involved an initial fleet of 15 commercial CNG buses, was officially announced by the Director-General of the Ekiti State Transportation Agency, Tajudeen Akingbolu, as part of state-level interventions aligning with federal directives on affordable public transportation.
Under the newly structured transport network, designated routes have been mapped out connecting Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, with high-volume inter-state commercial hubs including Lagos, Ibadan, Onitsha, and Abuja.
Akingbolu emphasized that substituting expensive liquid fuels with compressed natural gas will significantly depress operational overheads for transport operators, allowing the state to pass down immediate cost savings to daily passengers facing heightened inflation.
Reaffirming the administration’s long-term mobility strategy, the state government assured residents that additional CNG units and conversion facilities will be integrated into the state’s public transit ecosystem to guarantee sustained, low-cost transport services.
