Tinubu slams opponents in Kaduna, says they created hunger, poverty

KADUNA — President Bola Ahmed Tinubu launched a sharp critique against political opposition on Saturday during the official flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign at the Ranchers Bees Stadium in Kaduna, accusing opposition figures of originating the economic hardship, hunger, and poverty facing the country.
Addressing a crowd of party supporters gathered in the Kaduna metropolis, the President defended his administration’s socio-economic reforms and asked the electorate to grant him a second mandate in the 2027 general elections under the platform of “Renewed Hope 2.0”.
Directly confronting critiques raised by opposition leaders regarding current living costs, President Tinubu asserted that his government is actively working to dismantle structural economic distortions inherited from past administrations.
“I hear my opponents talking about hunger and poverty. Who created it? They did! They created the hunger, and they created the poverty. We are the ones working to eradicate it,” President Tinubu stated. “Be careful; watch them. Don’t let them lie to you. What is past is in the past. Fuel subsidy is in our past: no more corruption, no more falsification of invoices, no more lies, no more smuggling of fuel.”
Defending the economic record of the ruling party, the President highlighted regular salary payments to public sector workers and commended state governors across the country for driving subnational infrastructure development.
Flanked by Vice President Kashim Shettima, APC National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, Director-General of the Presidential Campaign Council Senator Abdulaziz Yari, and host Governor Uba Sani, the President expressed gratitude to voters in the North-West zone for their pivotal support in the 2023 elections, pledging that his administration’s long-term economic policies will deliver sustained growth, job opportunities, and macroeconomic stability.
