The Commander-in-Chief made the remarks during his keynote address at the launching of the prestigious Nigerian Navy International Fleet Review (IFR), held at the sprawling Eko Atlantic Waterfront in Victoria Island, Lagos. The high-profile event serves as the anchor activity marking the historic 70th anniversary Platinum Jubilee of the Nigerian Navy, commemorating seven decades since the force’s foundational establishment on June 1, 1956.
Addressing a distinguished gallery of international naval envoys, regional defense chiefs, and veteran military personnel, President Tinubu linked the aggressive, technology-driven patrol frameworks of the Navy directly to the security of coastal communities and the recent stabilization of national revenue streams.

President Tinubu highlighted that the Navy’s modern architecture, which integrates real-time digital surveillance systems with rapid-response maritime strike elements, has turned the Gulf of Guinea from a global piracy hotbed into a secure commercial corridor.
“Through effective integration of surveillance, rapid response mechanisms, and operations, you have successfully eradicated piracy in our waters and significantly curtailed crude oil theft and associated maritime crime,” President Tinubu stated. He added:
“These achievements have enhanced the security of communities and contributed to increasing national productivity, thereby supporting robust economic growth. I am confident that the Nigerian Navy will continue to secure the maritime environment as a thriving engine of our blue economy.”
The presidential declaration follows years of intensive multi-billion naira hardware acquisitions and deep inter-agency collaboration. The operational successes have systematically restored deep-sea investor confidence, lowering heavy war-risk insurance premiums that had historically driven up the cost of shipping goods into Nigerian ports.

To concretize the administration’s ongoing commitment to naval modernization, President Tinubu performed the formal commissioning and symbolic presentation of new colours for three newly inducted capital ships: NNS Mambila, NNS Gurara, and NNS Oloibiri.

The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, expressed profound appreciation to the President for his sustained executive support. He emphasized that the service’s ongoing structural transitions—which include the recent commissioning of expansive junior ratings housing blocks and recreational infrastructure at Navy Town, Ojo—have drastically elevated the combat readiness and morale of the fighting men in the field.
