ENUGU — Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has dismissed allegations that his administration moved to block or disrupt a scheduled town hall meeting by former presidential candidate Peter Obi, describing the claims as baseless political speculation designed to stir unnecessary disaffection.
Addressing journalists through state officials in Enugu on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, the governor stated that Enugu State remains open, peaceful, and democratic for all political actors regardless of party affiliation, adding that no administrative or security directives were issued to prevent opposition gatherings.
The refutation follows reports circulating across digital platforms suggesting that local authorities had denied venue clearances and security permits for a planned interactive session involving Obi and local civil society groups in the state capital.
“Enugu State belongs to all Nigerians, and our administration operates strictly under the rule of law,” Governor Mbah stated. “At no point did this government give instructions to stop, interfere with, or frustrate any town hall meeting or political gathering organized by Mr. Peter Obi or any other citizen. Political activities, dialogue, and freedom of association are fully protected in our state”.
The governor urged political organizers and media entities to verify administrative procedures with relevant state agencies before making public declarations, emphasizing that his administration remains focused on delivering infrastructure and economic development across Enugu State rather than engaging in partisan skirmishes.
