In an official statement, the Federal Government reaffirmed its strong commitment to maintaining robust diplomatic ties with both countries. Nigerian agencies are actively engaging their US and UAE counterparts to address concerns through constructive dialogue.
The US cited high visa overstays by Nigerians and the need for better access to records as reasons for revising its visa rules, part of a global visa reciprocity review that adjusts entry limits and visa validity periods.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed all relevant agencies to ensure full compliance with Nigeria’s international duties and increase cooperation to verify identities of Nigerians seeking consular services abroad. He urged Nigerians to respect the immigration laws of host countries to protect their travel privileges.
Regarding the UAE, Nigeria said it has not received formal notice of policy changes but acknowledged visa processing is proceeding more gradually. The government praised ongoing positive engagement with UAE authorities to resolve any issues collaboratively.
President Tinubu pledged continued efforts to secure the best outcomes for Nigerians abroad, consistent with his administration’s 4-D Foreign Policy agenda focused on the diaspora’s welfare.
