AskProf Gains Ground as Students, Teachers and Parents Embrace AI-Powered Learning

As artificial intelligence continues to find its way into classrooms, homes and workplaces, students, parents and teachers are beginning to explore how the technology can be used not simply to obtain answers, but to understand, learn and solve problems.
For users of AskProf, an AI-powered educational platform created by Professor Adedeji Badiru, the experience is already beginning to demonstrate what personalised learning can look like.
From a university student using the platform to tackle complex arithmetic to a professional welding and fabrication practitioner using it to develop ideas and solve practical problems, users say AskProf is helping them approach learning in a more interactive and structured way.
Their experiences also highlight a central philosophy behind the platform: artificial intelligence should support learning and independent thinking rather than replace them.
‘It can serve as a learning companion’
For Segun Agboola, a student and professional welding and fabrication practitioner with a strong interest in technology, his first encounter with AskProf came during a virtual programme organised by ABICS on Digital Skills and AI Tools on March 13, 2026.
Professor Badiru mentioned AskProf towards the end of the lecture, and Agboola’s curiosity was immediately aroused.
Already interested in using artificial intelligence to learn new things, obtain information, explore possibilities and understand the capabilities of AI, he decided to test AskProf for himself.
His first question was not a simple academic query. He asked the platform to develop a five-year strategy for transforming a small welding and fabrication workshop into a nationally recognised engineering company, covering areas such as business development, marketing, technology adoption, workforce training, financial planning and risk management.
The response, he said, exceeded his expectations.
“I was pleased with the response and the information provided. The response was detailed, organised and relevant to the question I asked. It also gave me different perspectives to consider, which made the experience useful beyond simply getting an answer,” he said.
For Agboola, one of AskProf’s biggest advantages is its ability to help users organise their thoughts and continue asking questions when they do not understand something.
“It can serve as a learning companion—I can ask follow-up questions whenever I do not understand something,” he said.
Asked to describe AskProf in three words, he chose: “Helpful. Intelligent. Informative.”
He also believes students can use the platform to explain difficult subjects, brainstorm ideas, prepare for assignments, revise lessons and explore topics beyond what they already know.
However, he cautioned students against using AI for academic dishonesty.
“I would encourage students to use it responsibly—as a learning assistant rather than a tool for academic dishonesty,” he said.
A parent’s experience: ‘I noticed a lot of improvement’
For Mrs Folasade Ibrahim, AskProf’s impact became more personal when she introduced the platform to her son.
She said she noticed considerable improvement in her son’s interaction with the platform and believes it has strong potential to simplify learning.
“I noticed a lot of improvement from my son’s interaction with AskProf,” she said.
According to her, the platform can help users improve their skills while making education easier and supporting problem-solving.
“I would recommend AskProf to other parents because it’s a useful AI to use so as to help their children in their day-to-day activities and their academics,” she added.
Her experience reflects a growing interest among parents in finding technology that can complement what children learn in school and provide additional support when they study outside the classroom.
Teacher sees opportunity for students and educators
For Sule Sikiru, a teacher, what stands out about AskProf is its student-focused approach.
“I think AskProf is a very good and timely innovation,” he said.
He believes having an AI platform specifically designed to support students can give them easier access to information, help them understand difficult topics and improve their learning.
“I also like the fact that it is focused on the needs of students,” he said.
Sikiru sees possibilities beyond students using the platform individually. He believes AskProf could also become an additional resource for teachers, particularly when students need explanations or learning support outside the classroom.
“With further development, AskProf could become a valuable educational tool for students and teachers across Nigeria and beyond,” he said.
What attracted him most was the platform’s focus on students and their practical learning needs.
“Students often need quick and simple explanations when they are studying or doing research. A platform designed specifically for their educational needs can make it easier for them to find information and understand what they are learning,” he said.
However, like Agboola, he believes responsible use is essential.
Students, he said, should ask questions, understand the explanations, verify important information and complete their own assignments rather than simply copy AI-generated responses.
“AI should help students learn, not encourage them to copy answers without understanding,” he said.
He also recommends AskProf to other teachers, describing it as a potentially useful resource for research, explanations, revision and learning.
‘It explains everything down to the last detail’
For Ibrahim Musa Babajide, a Computer Science Education student at Olabisi Onabanjo University, the motivation was straightforward: he wanted to acquire more knowledge about his course.
He eventually put AskProf to a more practical test when he encountered complex arithmetic that was proving difficult for him.
His experience left a strong impression.
“I was amazed by how it solved the complex arithmetic that I was having issues with,” he said.
Babajide said the platform has made difficult tasks easier for him and described his interaction with AskProf as almost like having a conversation with a person.
“When I interact with the AI (AskProf), it’s like I’m interacting with a person and it explains every single thing down to the last detail,” he said.
He believes other students should give the platform a try, describing it as a tool that can make academic life easier and contribute to students’ intellectual development.
‘AskProf is awesome’
Dudu Emmanuel, a doctoral candidate in Studio Painting at the University of Benin, discovered AskProf after it was recommended by a mentor.
Curious to see what the platform could offer, he decided to try it.
His first experience was positive.
“My experience was seamless the first time I used AskProf. AskProf is awesome,” he said.
One feature that stood out to him was the way the platform presented responses.
“Unlike some other AI tools, AskProf does not carry unnecessary information as response to prompts,” he said.
For a doctoral student, the ability to receive focused information can be particularly useful when exploring ideas and conducting academic work.
Parents are also taking notice
Ms Cindy Cole, another parent who uses AskProf, also described the application positively.
“AskProf is a very good application,” she said.
Her interest in the platform has extended to her children, who are in college.
“I’m going to have my children who are in college to also take a look and give me feedback on what they think,” she said.
Her response reflects another important dimension of the platform’s growing appeal: parents are not only interested in what AI can do for their children, but are also becoming part of the learning conversation themselves.
From answering questions to encouraging learning
The experiences of AskProf users point to a common theme.
They are not simply describing an AI system that produces answers. They are describing a tool they can question, interact with, use to organise ideas, seek explanations from and return to when they encounter difficulties.
That distinction is central to Professor Adedeji Badiru’s vision for AskProf.
The platform supports examination-focused learning, including UTME, WAEC and NECO, as well as international examinations such as the SAT and Advanced Placement examinations.
Badiru said AskProf is currently free because access is central to his educational philosophy.
“My learning philosophy is that we all learn better when we are all on the same page,” he said. “The only way we could all be on the same page is if we all have equal access, which is only possible if the access is free.”
The platform is designed to work on modest mobile devices and with limited data, potentially making it useful to students who may not have access to expensive devices or high-speed internet.
Although Nigerian curricula have been incorporated into the platform, Badiru said AskProf was conceived as a global educational tool, with users also accessing it from outside Nigeria.
The idea itself is not new.
Badiru said he registered the AskProf.com domain more than 20 years ago, originally intending to create a service where students could send academic questions to him by email and receive personal responses.
The volume of questions, however, made the idea difficult to sustain.
The emergence of generative AI eventually provided an opportunity to revive the concept on a much larger scale.
According to Badiru, the development of AskProf was accelerated by the emergence of ChatGPT and the involvement of AI programmer Damilola Adelaja.
Users still have a responsibility
While the testimonies are largely positive, both the users and the creator acknowledge that AI should not replace human judgment.
Badiru has urged users to verify information from credible sources and not treat AI-generated responses as unquestionable facts.
The platform also provides a feedback mechanism through which users can rate responses.
For teachers such as Sikiru and students such as Agboola, responsible use is equally important.
The emerging message from users is therefore not simply that students should use AI, but that they should use it correctly.
Ask questions.
Seek explanations.
Ask follow-up questions.
Verify important information.
Think independently.
And, most importantly, understand the work rather than simply copy the answer.
As Agboola put it, students can use AskProf to make learning more interactive and easier to understand, while still taking responsibility for their own academic work.
For Badiru, that is ultimately the purpose of the project.
“We want AskProf to serve as a proof that a tutor built with the right values—teach first, don’t just answer—can reach students a single professor never could in a lifetime of lecturing,” he said.
And if the experiences of its early users are anything to go by, that experiment is already beginning to take shape—not merely in the answers AskProf provides, but in the way students, teachers and parents are beginning to use AI as a companion in the learning process.
