Ex-international, Friday Ekpo, is excited about the friendly international recently proposed by the Nigeria Football Federation for the national team, Super Eagles towards their Africa Cup of Nations outing in Egypt this year, saying it is a right step in good direction.
Ekpo told thelagostimes.com.ng that he has been dreaming about the day the team would line up against the best in the continent in preparations for the football fiesta in the group B which has teams like Madagascar,Guinea and Burundi in Egypt.
“It is a welcome development for Eagles. At least the boys would be match fit before the tournament proper. The match will give them enough time to know each other properly. There is no time to waste since they have known their opponents and how to tackle them,” Ekpo said.
The NFF had proposed friendly duels against Cameroon, Ghana and Republic of Benin for Eagles but Ghana and Cameroon opted out of the arrangement, as the two countries are also at the forefront of getting their players ready for the challenges ahead.
“Playing against Benin Republic is not a bad idea because players will have to understand themselves better but at the same time, Senegal is a tested side made of great players with zeal and determination. I think they would give Nigeria a good match,”he said.
NFF Secretary General, Dr Muhammad Sanusi, had confirmed only Senegal duel for Eagles and he said the match will take place in Egypt, the venue of the tournament in June.
