LAGOS, NIGERIA — Resident doctors at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, under the aegis of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD-LASUTH), have issued a 7-day ultimatum to the Lagos State Government to address pending welfare demands or face an indefinite industrial action.
The resolve was reached during an emergency Ordinary General Meeting (OGM) held at the hospital complex in Ikeja, where the association expressed frustration over unresolved allowances, unpaid salary arrears, and worsening working conditions across state tertiary health institutions.
Key Demands Raised by ARD-LASUTH

Unpaid Salary Arrears: Payment of accumulated arrears arising from the implementation of the updated Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS).

Accoutrement Allowances: Immediate disbursement of long-overdue hazard and medical accoutrement allowances owed to resident doctors and medical officers.

Severe Manpower Shortage: Urgent recruitment of doctors and clinical staff to replace personnel lost to brain drain (Japa), which doctors say has led to severe burnout and unsafe doctor-to-patient ratios.

Hospital Infrastructure & Equipment: Upgrade of critical diagnostic equipment, call rooms, and emergency clinical supplies within the teaching hospital complex to support safe patient care.
